Minimum cage size recommendations have changed significantly in recent times, due to increased awareness and research into animal welfare by well-known animal welfare bodies such as the RSPCA and Blue Cross Animal Welfare Charity.
Recommended minimum cage size for guinea pigs vary across different animal welfare bodies and rescue centres/branches, and the information below is provided on a best endeavours basis. If you're considering adopting guinea pigs from a local rescue centre, we recommend checking specific sizing guidelines with them directly before purchase, as they may insist on a particular enclosure/run size for specific combinations of pigs.
- The RSPCA's minimum cage size guidelines has increased. They now recommend a minimum of 10,000 cm2 for 2 pigs, equivalent to a floor area of 170cm x 60cm, although this can vary across local RSPCA branches.
- The Blue Cross Animal Welfare Charity's recommended minimum cage size for 2 pigs is a little less at 150x60cm, but they recommend larger if possible.
- Some rescue centres may require larger enclosures for housing 2 male guinea pigs together.
Due to this change in recommended minimum sizing, our 120x60cm guinea pig hutch is now only sold with a built-in access door to the front or side, for use with a permanent run.

The packaging was fantastic, everything arrived safe and sound.
Putting it together was super simple, made even easier by the good quality components and careful workmanship.
One suggestion: Some little handles on the main section would help me to lift it on and off for cleaning.

I am so happy with my guinea pig cage. It is very well made and much more attractive than plastic indoor cages I have had in the past. At first I opted for an open top cage, however I have 2 very inquisitive baby piggies who like to sit on top of their houses and reach up to the top of the cage. I contacted Kate and she gave me options of the different types of roofs she could make and once I had chosen it was soon on its way to me.
I have 2 Guinea pig houses which are lovely. Quite often my 2 Guinea pigs will be together in one, but sometimes like their own space and I will find one in each.
I would also recommend the haystack as it keeps the hay off the floor and also my Guinea pigs seem to love reaching up to it. So much more exciting than eating off the floor!

We bought a cage last Christmas for our sons’ piggies And we’re thrilled with it! We were a bit worried what it would look like in the sitting room but they are lovely looking cages. As the pigs grew we felt they would like more space so we asked Kate if we could have ‘penthouse’. Communication about our order was great & Alistair & Jonny are very happy with the extension to their home …. once they’d got over the trepidation of using the ‘stairs’.

I shopped around for a while looking for a suitable guinea pig cage that would look nice and the choices were limited so I was so glad when I stumbled across this. I think the price is really reasonable when you compare it to other cages and it fits in nicely with my furniture. I got the solid back as it is up against a wall so it was nice to have the option and I think the idea you have come up with for cleaning the cage is fab, so many cage designs I looked at had reviews saying it was hard to clean or bedding was everywhere because the tray was too shallow, definitely not the case with this. Also great communication from Kate, she got back to me straight away and the cage was delivered when she said it would be in time for my Daughters Birthday 🙂

I ordered this house for my Guinea pigs, slightly larger at 150x60cm and it looks absolutely fab!! Really really well made, looks amazing in the house and really easy to put together. My Guinea pigs also love it. Kate was really efficient at responding to emails and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend the Guinea pig houses and hay rack too. It all looks lovely together and my Guinea pigs adore it all. Worth every penny!
