Gerbil Cages
Gerbils love nothing more than digging deep burrows which they live and nest in, so their habitat must be large enough to accommodate a substrate depth of at least 8-10″, or ideally 12″, to allow natural behaviour.
Our Extra Tall 120x60x52cm enclosure is a good option, or even better, add a Height Extension Unit to any of our perspex fronted cages to create a truly amazing gerbilarium.

The stand height is 45cm – a good height for a kneeling adult, and approximate eye level for young children, with a storage height underneath of approx 35cm.

The pack of wheels consists of 2 braked wheels (for the front) and 2 unbraked (for the rear).
When purchasing at the same time as your pet home, screw holes will be pre-marked for customers to screw the wheels on themselves.

Natural Wood Hamster & Small Pet Exercise Wheel from Trixie – 2 sizes
From £19.50Natural wood exercise wheel for hamsters and small pets, with a padded cork running surface, which is more comfortable for your little pet’s feet. Low noise and smooth motion due to ball bearing design. Made by Trixie, and sold in two sizes, as follows:
Medium 21cm – Suitable for small mice and dwarf hamsters.
Large 28cm – Suitable for Syrian hamsters and gerbils. Not recommended for pygmy hedgehogs as the wheel is too narrow.
Please adhere to the above size recommendations so your pets do not arch their back whilst using the wheel. The video below of a “cute baby syrian hamster” shows him in too small a wheel and he is bending his spine which will give him health problems in later life. Please buy an appropriate size wheel to keep your fur baby healthy and happy!
For enrichment, gerbil cages need room for a 12" wheel, and plenty of wooden activity toys with rough surfaces, for exercise and something to gnaw on, to help keep teeth and claws worn down and naturally healthy.
